We finally arrived in Naples. This was probably our toughest day traveling. We had a late night in Positano, the ferries were a mess and we had to change tickets because we would have missed our connection in Sorrento, our hotel was over booked so we had to move. Admittedly the first hotel took care of the arrangements and got us a paid cab and a room at the same rate. We’re at the Renaissance in Naples, part of the Marriott chain.
We’ve heard from everyone that Naples is dirty and dangerous. We saw part of the town that looked like it was out of an apocalypse movie. Graffiti, garbage, boarded up buildings. Lorah said she was afraid we were going to get shanked by the cab driver… But we’re safe, enjoying a nice room, air conditioning. We’re up early for a flight to London. I’ll appreciate being among the english speaking again.
Here’s a picture of Mt Vesuvius from the ferry from Capri to Naples.
